Your overall strategy and team goals need to be set and communicated, and performance progress still needs to be measured.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrteamservices.com\/\">HR Team<\/a> Director, Martina McAuley, says: \u201cGood performance management is built on clearly setting expectations, ensuring employee accountability and providing regular feedback to staff. Communication is key \u2013 daily team briefings, regular management meetings and one to one meetings with employees should be implemented.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEstablishing an employee\u2019s skill or will; the establishment of basic standards, expectations and targets (BET); adopting appropriate management style and clear communication are the four integral parts to address and improve an employee performance,\u201d she explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Underperforming employees<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen it comes to underperforming employees, nine out of ten times the issue at hand is a result of the inability to communicate clearly with staff rather than outside influences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAn employee left to his or her own devices and not made fully aware of the requirements of a role will likely underachieve in terms of performance. More often than not, a lack of clarity signals an imminent failure to deliver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWritten communication is vitally important in every operation but in the absence of face to face briefings, the message can very often get lost and or forgot<\/span>ten,\u201d says Ms McAuley.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Reasons why an employee may be underperforming:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The wrong person was hired for the role.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No clear expectations of the employee were established.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poor job role design.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ineffective induction and training.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ineffective working environment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unsuitable organisational structure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ineffective or no communication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of rewards or motivation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insufficient performance feedback.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outside influences.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms McAuley added: \u201cUnique to HR Team is our tried and tested BET system, which clearly outlines how to achieve efficiency and improve performance in the workforce.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HR Team\u2019s BET system is broken down as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>B &#8211; Basic stan<\/b><b>dards for employees\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An organisation\u2019s basic standards must be clearly outlined from day one and are non-negotiable. These standards may include matters such as time keeping, code of conduct, social media policy, mobile-phone policy, sickness protocols, employee presentation\/ appearance, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>E &#8211; Expectations of employees<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job descriptions outline clear roles and responsibilities for employees. These must be communicated clearly to ensure that every employee understands what is expected and required of them in the organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>T &#8211; Targets for employees<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lack of clearly defined goals or key performance indicators can severely affect your organisation. Hold regular team briefings to determine deadlines, financial targets, productivity targets, wastage targets, sales targets, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you would like
