Sick of the sick note – employers need not despair

By Miss Performance

If I had a penny for each time an employer sighs at the arrival of a sick note, I’d be living in a palace and bathing in milk.

Unfortunately I’m still in our Derry-Londonderry office hammering on the keyboard with no more than a glass of stale milk and a cup of cooling coffee - but hey, that’s no cause for despair.

Equally employers need not despair when faced with cases of long term absence as there are many steps they can take to solve their issue with minimum risk.

The sick note is a fact of life and can be very distressing not only for business owners but for managers and the absent employee’s colleagues.

Absence Management Workshop 25th August 2015

Absence is a costly affair which affects the morale and efficiency of a business. It is crucial that organisations understand how to minimise absence by creating an organisational culture which mitigates absenteeism in the workplace. This seminar will demonstrate how managers and supervisors can reduce absence levels whilst also establishing clear and fair absence management policies which stimulate engagement in the workplace.

July HR Team update

July has been an extremely productive month for HR Team.

We have hosted 5 professional seminars including four interactive sessions focusing on absenteeism and performance management and we have been rewarded with a great level of enthusiasm, engagement and participation from employers across the North West. These sessions have proved to be particularly popular with businesses who want to remain cost efficient, and organisations who do not have the time or resources to hire designated HR managers.

Additionally, we have worked in conjunction with Skillnet to promote the professional up-skilling of managers and business owners across Donegal. Further collaborations have taken place between ourselves and the Northern Ireland Science park , the Donegal Business Network and the Foyle Business Network. These interactions have taken place regarding our consultation on various elements of employment law and performance management.

Productive meetings regarding further expansion have also taken place this week. As the organisation continues to grow from strength to strength, the impending recruitment of new staff is fast approaching the horizon.

Furthermore, we have successfully secured several new clients whose diversity ranges from organisations in the engineering and IT sector, to world famous hoteliers.

As we advance towards the end of the month we have lots more events and seminars organised throughout Northern Ireland, the UK and the Republic of Ireland. This makes us particularly unique as we are able to offer expert advice across all three jurisdictions unlike the large majority of our competitors.

Our motto together everyone achieves more truly resonates with our commitment to excellence, as a bespoke and distinctive service continues to be the driving force behind our growing success.
