Performance management is a day to day responsibility that every manager must carry out in order to be effective. The most common challenge for employers is dealing with underperforming staff, which in turn is costing the business. This workshop will give employers the tools and guidance to effectively manage the performance of their teams, whilst ensuring that they are legally complaint in the process.

What will you learn from the programme?

You will be equipped to effectively manage the performance of your staff and be knowledgeable on the systems required to do this. You will also be able to identify the risks in managing staff performance so that your business is protected from costly tribunal claims.

This session will focus on the following elements:

ü  D Defining organisational standards to allow performance to be managed

ü  D Defining "underperformance" and how to address this effectively

ü  H How to have difficult conversations

ü  D Detailed guidance for managers on how to address underperformance

ü  HHow to conduct performance meetings and implement a Performance Improvement Plan

HR Team has been appointed as HR and Employment Law mentors by Derry City Council under its Growing the Digital Economy Programme (GDE)

All Digital SMEs in the Derry City Council area are eligible for this programme. Non-Digital SMEs can also be eligible if they have registered for Super Connected Cities.

Details of the GDE Programme

Under the GDE Programme, HR Team can provide fully funded HR and Employment Law one-to-one and group mentoring support to both digital and non-digital businesses for up to 14 hours, on a topic of their choice. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Contracts of Employment and Employee Handbooks
  • Performance Management
  • Managing Absence
  • Disciplinary and Dismissal
  • Grievances
  • Managing Social Media in the Workplace

Recruitment and Selection - How to recruit the best candidate!

This practical session provides employers with the essential tools for effective recruitment and selection, explains the legal context of recruitment and selection and how to select appropriate methods so that you can select the best possible candidate for the job.

What will you learn from the programme?

You will be equipped to effectively and compliantly manage the recruitment and selection process and be knowledgeable on the systems required to do this. You will also be able to identify the risks in managing the recruitment process so that your business is protected from costly tribunal claims.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Recognise the importance of adopting a structured recruitment process and the use of relevant selection methods
  • Have the knowledge on how to screen candidates’ CVs or application forms using an agreed selection criteria for a job role
  • Be able to prepare for a first stage selection interview to ensure they create the right first impressions and candidate engagement
  • Be able to design effective questions in order to accurately assess the candidate’s suitability for the role.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact throughout the workshop.
